May 19- Safari

We went on safari or "game drive" twice today.  We go by truck.  Our guide is a Zulu who is from an area with no roads or electricity and you have to buy a wife for eleven cows (or cash equivalent).

As you can see there are many plains animals.  It got rather exciting when three elephants came out of the brush right near us... the young elephant thought he would check us out.  Mom immediately went into protection mode and was pushing him back while at the same time trying to intimidate us... it worked!  At one point she turned her back to us.  The ranger explained (he previously worked six years at Tembe National Elephant Park)  that is the most dangerous and means they plan to attack of they turn their back... they swing around and hit with their trunk.  Our ranger had it well under control and was not terribly concerned... but he backed-up that truck pretty quick!!!
